ADVANCING GREEN BUILDING IN HIGHER EDUCATION INITIATIVE

Second Nature invites companies, government agencies, foundations and non-governmental organizations with a commitment to sustainability to become sponsors and help support and promote the Advancing Green Building in Higher Education Initiative.

This Initiative builds green building expertise and the institutional capacity of under-resourced institutions by helping them to become leaders and gain access to the opportunities afforded by green building. The built environment accounts for an estimated 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, a major contributor to global climate disruption. Many public universities, religious, community, and technical colleges, and institutions that serve financially disadvantaged and minority students often have fewer resources to spend on brick and mortar projects, less in-house knowledge about green building, and a limited opportunity to learn from similar schools that have excelled in green building. Many are unaware that green building will result in a 10-20% annual energy savings over the long-term. Therefore, this strategic and multifaceted green building initiative builds the capacity of under-resourced colleges and universities to construct and renovate campus buildings in ways that save money, reduce negative health impacts, and serve as community models for environmentally sustainable construction.

Supporting the Advancing Green Building Initiative and its activities, such as the Campus Green Builder web portal, assists our efforts in helping under-resourced higher education institutions pursue sustainability and green building practice. We invite companies, government agencies, foundations and non-governmental organizations with a commitment to sustainability to become sponsors and help support the program.
